To celebrate Atlanta Pride weekend, I recently volunteered with Lambda Legal. Lambda Legal is a legal organization that fights for equality for people of the LGBTQ community. What’s unique to Lambda Legal is that its fight doesn’t end until there is definite institutional change that will take place to prevent future discrepancies (i.e. new company-wide policies, changes in company constitutions, etc.) I was part of the cause by helping to conduct surveys about the relationship between the police and the people of the LGBTQ community. These surveys measured the amount of trust the people surveyed had for the police. Overall, it was great experience to be a part of such an inspiring movement.

Improving Health Through  Community Partnerships

This past Saturday, September 22, 2012, some of the residents from Hubert Hall and LLC went on a 2k walk to raise awareness about men’s health hosted by the National Minority Male Health Project. There were men’s health screening including HIV testing, blood sugar testing, cholesterol testing, BMI, and variety of other health screenings. The residents in Hubert and LLC also tasted a variety of healthy foods like Smoothie King and other organic and vegan dishes. This program helped our residents to learn about healthy dieting, how to build healthy relationships and how to develop overall healthy lifestyles.
